About Dr. Sheyman

Dr. Alan Sheyman is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan. He then attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated at the top of his class, and he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After completion of an internship at the Montefiore Medical Center, he went on to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he completed his ophthalmology residency. Following this, he trained with world experts in retinal disease at Northwestern University in Chicago. 

Prior to returning to New York City, Dr. Sheyman was a full-time faculty member and served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland, where he was actively involved in clinical and surgical retinal care, along with teaching residents, and performing research. Dr. Sheyman has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including research on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular pucker, and unusual diseases of the retina. He also has been the author and editor for multiple medical textbooks and chapters. He serves as a reviewer for multiple publications, including Retina. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Sheyman trains doctors at Queens Hospital Center and at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.
